Crash of the X-15

The story told by crewmember A.B. Baarschers in a letter he wrote to his parents on July 16th 1939. First the original Dutch version and below that the translation.

"The accident in Ternate was like this: On june 3rd at 2240 de made a nightlanding on the docks of Ternate, with high speed (± 100 mile) and in a few seconds is was over: only the tail and wing were still above the water. De plane was badly damaged and has been thouroughly dismanteled. We had a wet suit and a few scratches and bumps. The end of the X 15. The enclosed pictures explane a bit. With the other two machines we concluded the month June and July 1st we returned to base. Probable date of the next tour is August 20th, again Ambon! But this time only 2 months."
